I noticed last week that as long as I have a subject in mind, such as drawing from a real object or drawing from a photo, my drawings can turn out fairly well, and I am usually pleased with the result. When I am seeking an idea or more or less aimlessly sketching or doodling (which ever you want to call it) I seem to revert to the subjects and style I did as a teenager, and believe me it has been a long long time since I was a teenager. Those results don’t please me at all. I have a feeling I just need to spend more time doing focused drawings, either of objects or from photos. Perhaps with more training my part I will see more improvement in the quality of these sketches and won’t continue to feel that I gotten stuck in a time warp.
Anyone else find the same thing?
I have updated my blog with some more finished drawings so you can compare if you wish.
